Synthesis from acetyl CoA: Step 3

In the third step HMG CoA is cleaved to yield acetoacetate (a ketone body) in a reaction catalyzed by HMG CoA lyase (HMG CoA cleavage enzyme). One molecule of acetyl CoA is also produced.
