Patient Education Workshop - Online or on CD

Jackie A. Smith, Ph.D. and the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library have produced a multimedia, interactive Patient Education Workshop. The workshop is a modular tutorial intended to train health care professionals. The four workshop modules cover the essential issues of patient education.

  • Module One introduces the major concepts of the workshop. It reviews prominent patient education models, looks at learning styles and teaching tools.
  • Module Two examines the role of creativity in teaching and learning with respect to patient education.
  • Module Three presents teaching skills in practice, with useful teaching tips, guidelines for assessment and evaluation, and suggestions for lively instruction.
  • Module Four covers the issues involved with written materials. Readability tests are provided to assist health care professionals in evaluating readability of health information and suggestions are provided to help in the selection of written materials for patient information.
