The Neuropathology Illustrated 2.0 CD-ROM contains files that are accessible via computers with Macintosh, PC compatible, or UNIX operating systems. The Neuropathology Illustrated files total 329 megabytes in actual size, but require more room when copied onto a hard disk drive, depending upon the operating system of your computer.
This product is designed for use with a Web browser. However, an Internet connection is not needed. You can directly access the Neuropathology Illustrated CD-ROM on your computer. In some Web browsers, such as the Internet Explorer, you work in "offline" mode. A variety of browsers are available for both Macintosh, PC compatible, and UNIX computers. The recommended Web browser has the functionality of the web browser versions of Netscape Navigator 4 or Internet Explorer 5 or higher. The browser must be able to support display of inline images in jpeg (.jpg) and gif (.gif) format. The browser must be able to support JavaScript, including the use of cookies. For best viewing, the computer monitor should be able to display a resolution at 800 X 600 or better with as many colors as possible. The text elements are best viewed at a size of 12 (or "medium" in the Internet Explorer browser).
Browsers that run on Macintosh computers will function without a network connection in place, assuming that you have configured the browser to begin with a blank page. You start the Web browser and open the start.htm file on the CD-ROM in the NP2 folder. If you have room on your hard disk drive, you can move the Neuropathology Illustrated folder (NP2) there, and this will improve the speed of access.
If you are running Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT you probably do not need to modify your configuration. You can start your Web browser without a connection established (work "offline") and access the Neuropathology Illustrated CD-ROM as a local file. Open the file start.htm in the root Neuropathology Illustrated directory (NP2) of the CD-ROM. If you have room on your hard disk drive, you can move the Neuropathology Illustrated directory there, and this will improve the speed of access.
