This muscular artery seen above and below shows a more severe vasculitis with acute and chronic inflammatory cell infiltrates, along with necrosis of the vascular wall. This is a case of classic polyarteritis nodosa (PAN), a form of vasculitis involving mainly small to medium-sized arteries anywhere in the body, but more often renal and mesenteric arteries.
