While Open Access definitely has a place in today’s scholarly communications, one should approach publishing within open access journals with a careful review of the pros and cons associated with such. The Eccles Library Director, Jean Shipman, would be glad to discuss these options with anyone interested in learning more about what factors to weigh when considering publishing in Open Access journals. Jean currently is a member of the Chicago Collaborative (chicago-collaborative.org), a group of editors, publishers and librarians that meets twice a year to discuss current and relevant issues related to scholarly publishing.
