Arkansas Children's Hospital, a private, non-profit institution, is the only pediatric medical center in the state and is one of the ten largest in the nation. Comprehensive care is offered to children from birth to age 21. Through its affiliation with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, the hospital is a training facility for pediatric medical and nursing students, post-doctoral residents and paramedical professionals.
The 53 bed NICU is equipped and staffed to deliver a full range of tertiary and quaternary care to critically ill neonates from throughout the state. Specially trained neonatal nurses are available for one-on-one patient care when needed. Neonatologists and pediatric house officers and neonatal nurse practitioners provide coverage to the unit, including 24-hour in house staff neontalology coverage. Subspecialists from the pediatric disciplines are available for consultation 24 hours a day. The Division of Neonatology's nine neonatologists rotate in pairs as attending physicians for the unit.
