Patricia Flatley Brennan, R.N., Ph.D., is currently Lillian Moehlman Bascom Professor, School of Nursing and College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. She recently was Professor of Nursing and Systems Engineering and Sociology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Brennan received a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Following seven years of clinical practice in critical care nursing and psychiatric nursing, Dr. Brennan has held several academic positions. She developed and directed the ComputerLink, an electronic network designed to reduce isolation and improve self-care among home care patients. Dr. Brennan currently directs the HeartCare initiative, a Web-based home care support service for patients recovering from cardiac surgery. Dr. Brennan is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics.

She is president-elect of the American Medical Informatics Association and serves as founding Associate Editor for its, JAMIA.

Bruce Bray, M.D.
Associate Professor, Departments of Medicine and Medical Informatics, School of Medicine, University of Utah

Dr. Bray has participated in the development of Web applications for the University of Utah Health Sciences Center including Patient Education. Currently, he is the Staff Cardiologist at both University Hospital and the Veterans Administration Medical Center. Dr. Bray serves on the American Society of Echocardiolography Computer Applications Committee; he is the Associate Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory and Director of the Cardiology Division Computer Network. Dr. Bray is a Member of the American Medical Informatics Association, as well as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Member of the American College of Physicians and Member of the American Society of Echocardiography.

Manager of the Whitmore Public Library, Salt Lake County Library System

Currently and for the last ten years, Ms. Davies has been Manager of the Whitmore Public Library. Five years ago, with assistance from federal funds, Jo established the Consumer Health Reference Center, the largest health/medical resource in any public library in Utah. She previously worked at the Salt Lake City Library, the University of Utah Marriott Library, and at five public libraries in London, over a ten year period. She serves as a consultant with Gale Research, Inc. Ms. Davies has a B.A. from University of California at Los Angeles, an M.L.S. from the University of California at Berkeley, and a certificate from the International Summer School at Oxford, England.

Ms. Hile received her Master of Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1996. As the Hope Fox Eccles Clinical Librarian, Deborah's responsibilities include providing up-to-date patient care information that is essential for informed clinical and management decision making. Deborah participates in the formal education efforts of the Eccles Library and serves on the Patient Education Clearinghouse Committee at the University Hospital, and she is involved with the Utah Library Association's HEAlth Round Table.

Ms. McCloskey provides library services to rural health care practitioners. Through a contract with the Utah Area Health Education Center (AHEC), she travels around the state teaching classes in how to access health and patient care information over the Internet. Kay received her Master of Library Science at Brigham Young University in 1980 and a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology in 1982. Kay is an active member of the Medical Library Association and the Midcontinental Medical Library Association; she is also the founding member of the Utah Library Association's HEAlth Round Table.

Dr. Smith serves as Patient Education Coordinator in the Office of Patient Education at University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics. She has worked over 20 years in the public health and health care arena as an educator, grantwriter, assistant professor, and consultant. She has established program evaluation protocols, moderated numerous focus groups, and written numerous professional articles. Jackie is owner of Health/scripts, which publishes and distributes a book for young readers called Babysitting Basics. In her current position, she started the Office of Patient Education and successfully implemented the Patient Education Home Page.

Assistant Professor and Director of the Nursing and Healthcare Informatics Program, University of Utah College of Nursing

Dr. Thompson is a graduate of the University of Rochester School of Nursing. She is currently an Assistant Professor and Director of the Nursing and Healthcare Informatics Program at the University of Utah College of Nursing. Her areas of interest include nursing informatics, nursing research and air transport. Cheryl is the principle investigator for a National Institutes of Health AREA Grant related to Case-based Decision Support During Patient Transport. Currently, Cheryl serves on the University of Utah Information Resources Coordinating Committee and is chair of the Committee on Committees.

Wayne Peay received an MS degree with honors from the School of Library Service of Columbia University in 1977. While attending library school, he was the Assistant Director of the Data Processing Department at the Medical Library Center of New York. Following his graduation, he returned to the University of Utah as Head of Medical Services at the Eccles Health Sciences Library. In 1984, he was appointed Director. Currently, he is a member of the University of Utah Task Force on Computing, and is also a member of the Utah Education Network Steering Committee. Wayne has served on the Board of Directors of the Medical Library Association and is a member of the Governor's Utah Steering Committee for the Western Governor's University.
