Suturing

John L. Bezzant,M.D.

The loop is then tightened with the hands in their natural position. This is done four times and then the suture is cut leaving suture ends at .5 cm long. In summary, I usually use a 4-0 or 3-0 absorbable suture for the deep dermals and I place them roughly every cm. I use a 4 or 5-0 monofilament nonabsorbable suture where the vertical mattress is, and I place those roughly every 1 to 2 mm along the surface of the wound. The vertical mattress sutures are removed from the face within 3 to 5 days, and from the trunk in about 7 to 14 days.
