The patient returned for serial hCG measurements 48 hours later and also had a serum progesterone performed. The beta hCG was 412 mIU/ml and the serum progesterone level was 4.3 ng/ ml  (the intial beta hCG was 318 mIU/ml). The patient is quite anxious for resolution of the problem and wants to know what can be done to quickly determine the diagnosis.
