WINDOWS DISPLAY FONT SIZE

THE PROBLEM:

If a web site contains a QuickTime movie in which a caption or text track has been added to the video and audio, Windows computers will sometimes display the text incorrectly. The text may appear oversized and is too big for its window. Many words are cut off and unreadable.

This problem is the result of a setting in the Windows operating system and is not something that is adjustable within QuickTime.

The following instructions will guide you through the steps necessary to change the size of the Windows Display Fonts.

Open the DISPLAY PROPERTIES CONTROL PANEL. From the START button on your Windows Task Bar, select SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>DISPLAY.

The DISPLAY PROPERTIES window opens. Click on the SETTINGS tab.

On Windows 95 or 98 systems, you will see the Display Font Size options on the SETTINGS window. On newer Windows systems, you must click the ADVANCED BUTTON to see the Display Font Size options.

Your system is likely set to "Large Fonts."

From the pull down list you must select "Small Fonts."

Once you have selected "Small Fonts," click the OK BUTTON at the bottom of the window.

You may see several dialog windows asking you to confirm that you wish to change the system settings for your computer. Read all the windows carefully and respond accordingly with the YES or NO BUTTONS.

Typically, you will be asked to RESTART your computer for the font size settings to be applied.

Once your computer has restarted, return to the web page with the QuickTime movies that have caption or text tracks. You should notice that all the words are now visible and fit within the text box.
