CLOSED CAPTIONS IN ENGLISH...

We are pleased to announce that as of November 2012 (and updated in 2016) all of the videos when viewed online include closed captions in English. From the videos you can download from our site, only the QuickTime versions of our movies include embedded closed captions in English. Please note that the other versions of our movies you download do not have closed captions.

VIEWING CAPTIONS ONLINE FROM THE WEBSITE:

Every video listed in a website page displays a "poster frame" taken from a video, with a triangular "play" button centered in the image:

Click the "play" button and the video begins to stream and play in your web browser.

CLOSED CAPTIONS: Any movie you play directly online from the website has closed captions that can be turned ON or OFF from its playback control bar. This is true even if you decide to view a video in a separate web page by clicking the blue button labeled VIEW VIDEO IN SEPARATE PAGE.

  • Some movies indicate they are "without sound." In such cases, there are no captions
  • The default display has the closed captions turned "ON".
  • Turn the closed captions "OFF" by using the button "CC" located in the control bar for a video.

VIEWING CAPTIONED QUICKTIME MOVIES AFTER DOWNLOADING A FILE:

If you download one a 640x480/640x360 QuickTime (h.264) format, the downloaded movie can be viewed directly in Apple's QuickTime Player, iTunes, or other QuickTime compatible player. To reveal the closed captions:

  • You can use either the QuickTime Player on a Macintosh computer or a Windows-based computer.
  • If you need to download the QuickTime Player from Apple, use the following URL:

    https://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

  • Open the captioned movie in QuickTime Player. Please be sure you are using Apple's QuickTime Player and not Windows Media Player. Our captions cannot be revealed when watching the movies with Windows Media Player, which frequently hijacks the playback of QuickTime movies.
  • Once the movie opens in the QuickTime Player, you must turn ON the captions.
  • Select the menu item named VIEW in the QuickTime player application.
  • From the sub-menu, select "SHOW CLOSED CAPTIONING."
  • Wait a few seconds for the captions to appear.

  • To turn off the captions, once again select the menu item named VIEW.
  • From the sub-menu that appears, select "HIDE CLOSED CAPTIONING."

Note: If you insert a QuickTime movie into a slide in Apple's Keynote presentation software or Microsoft's PowerPoint, you will notice that there is no way to turn on the closed captions. Neither program respects the presence of closed captions embedded in a QuickTime movie.
