July 15, 2005: Management of Sarcomas- The Need for Comprehensive Care and Innovations in Research (This presentation was scheduled for July 01, 2005 but was rescheduled due to the holiday)
Presented By: Lor Randall, M.D.
Learning Objectives:
- To gain an appreciation of the spectrum of sarcomatous diseases.
- To appreciate the need for sarcoma treatment to be initiated and completed at centers of expertise by a comprehensive, interdisciplinary team.
- Complex diagnoses
- Complex treatments
- Research is necessary to improve the treatment of these cancers.
Tips:
The Medical Subject Heading (MESH) that is being used for today's topic "Management of Sarcomas- The Need for Comprehensive Care and Innovations in Research" is:
Sarcoma
A connective tissue neoplasm formed by proliferation of mesodermal cells; it is usually highly malignant.
Patient Care Team
Care of patients by a multidisciplinary team usually organized under the leadership of a physician; each member of the team has specific responsibilities and the whole team contributes to the care of the patient.
Year introduced: 1968
Combined Modality Therapy
The treatment of a disease or condition by several different means simultaneously or sequentially. Chemoimmunotherapy, RADIOIMMUNOTHERAPY, chemoradiotherapy, cryochemotherapy, and SALVAGE THERAPY are seen most frequently, but their combinations with each other and surgery are also used. Year introduced: 1984
We also included non MeSH terms "multidisciplinary" AND "interdisciplinary" to make sure the search results are as thorough as possible.
To more accurately narrow the results of the search strategy, we are using the subheadings for these MeSH term "Sarcoma":
You will note the slight differences in how we have built the search strategy by using not only [MeSH Terms] but also [Text Word], [All Fields], and [Majr]. The [Majr] functions as a way to only search citations where the major topic of the article is on that {MeSH Term].
To further narrow the results from PubMed MEDLINE, the reference staff has applied date (5 year), language (English), and species (human) restrictions. These searches were performed June 21, 2005 so the results you get may be higher.
Please note that this is just a small portion of information on this topic. If you would like to learn more about what is available on this to other health topics, please contact the library Reference Staff at 581-5534 or toll free 866-581-5534.
