In this month's topic " Pain Medicine and Palliative Care" we are using the following Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) terms with the Subject heading "Methods":
  • Analgesia
Insensibility to pain without loss of consciousness. (2005 Merriam-Webster Medical Dictionary)
  • Anesthesia
A state characterized by loss of feeling or sensation. This depression of nerve function is usually the result of pharmacologic action and is induced to allow performance of surgery or other painful procedures.
  • Pain
An unpleasant sensation induced by noxious stimuli and generally received by specialized nerve endings.
  • Palliative Care
Care alleviating symptoms without curing the underlying disease. (Stedman, 25th ed) Year introduced: 1996
  • Subject Headings:
    Methods
Used with techniques, procedures, and programs for methods.
    Therapy
Used with diseases for therapeutic interventions except drug therapy, diet therapy, radiotherapy, and surgery, for which specific subheadings exist. The concept is also used for articles and books dealing with multiple therapies.
Please note where we have we have narrowed the results by only searching articles where the topic is the major focus (e.g. Analgesia/methods[Majr]). Lastly, to further narrow the results from PubMed MEDLINE, the reference staff has applied date (5 year), language (English), and species (human) restrictions. These searches were performed October 25, 2005 so the results you get may be higher if search is run today.
