Dr. Day will address metabolic syndrome, the clinical implications for the increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease, the public health implication of this condition, and a strategy to recognize metabolic syndrome and do something to manage it.

Note: For the Pubmed searches on Genetics of Diabetes below, we will be using the MESH heading Metabolic Syndrome X, a multifaceted syndrome characterized by HYPERINSULINEMIA; dyslipidemia (HYPERLIPIDEMIA); essential HYPERTENSION; abdominal OBESITY; and GLUCOSE INTOLERANCE in individuals with INSULIN RESISTANCE. It is different from MICROVASCULAR ANGINA (cardiac syndrome X).
