Associate Dean, University of Washington, School of Pharmacy
Dr. Nanci Murphy is Associate Dean and Executive Head of the Office of Academic and Student Programs at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. She completed her Bachelor in Pharmacy degree from Washington State University and her Pharm.D. from the University of Washington. She also earned the Geriatric Certificate in Pharmacy Practice and a Teaching Scholars Certificate from the Medical Education and Biomedical Informatics Department at the University of Washington and completed a certificate course for health professionals, educators and leaders offered by the University of Toronto and the Centre for Interprofessional Education. She has served as faculty mentor and advisor for numerous award-winning patient care and community outreach projects (e.g., AACP Student Community Engaged Service Award, AACP Transformative Community Service Award, Project CHANCE, PLS Leadership Challenge) and was selected as APhA-ASP Outstanding Chapter Advisor in 2008 and a recipient of the Gibaldi Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009 and 2010. She founded the Center for Pharmacy Leadership and Professional Excellence and the Bridges to Health Patient Advocacy Center both which fosters student leadership and advocacy in the community. Dr. Murphy helped lead the planning of six student pharmacist leadership conferences, including those in partnership with the Washington State Pharmacy Association and Washington State University and another in collaboration with health sciences schools (an interprofessional leadership conference) at the University of Washington.
Past and present American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy positions include:
Council of Deans Administrative Board, Student Services SIG Chair, Curriculum SIG Chair, Chair of the Council of Deans-Council of Faculties Healthy Student Task Force; a member of the Academic Affairs Committee, the Advocacy Committee, Assessment SIG Executive Planning Committee, the APhA-ASP AACP Joint Committee on Student Professionalism, the Council of Deans Innovations in Health Care Education Task Force, the Institutional Research Advisory Committee, and the CAPE Outcomes (Public Health) Pharmacy Practice Committee.
Dr.Murphy co-directs the UW Center for Health Sciences Interprofessional Education and serves on the Institute of Translational Health Sciences Multidisciplinary Predoctoral Clinical Research Committee, the WWAMI AHEC and (SPARX) Steering Committee, the Global Health Resources Advisory Committee and the Health Sciences Service Learning Committee. She has a strong interest in interprofessional education and has participated in curriculum development, mapping, and assessment. Dr. Murphy is also a TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer and a member of the UW Josiah P. Macy Jr. grant Internal Executive Committee studying the impact of simulation-based team training program on students' interprofessional communication skills She has served as faculty advisor on several award-winning interprofessional student projects.
