Past medical history is unremarkable. Tommy was a full term baby and achieved all of the early developmental milestones on time. He has no chronic illnesses, has never been hospitalized or had surgery, takes no medications and has no allergies. He has never been involved in an accident that required evaluation by a physician.
Tommy lives with both of his parents and his older sister. His father is a real estate agent who left college after a year and a half; his mother completed a college degree and works as an accountant. Tommy's older sister is in 7th grade, and "gets all A's" in school. There are no unusual stressors in the home.
The extended family history is significant for several "slow learners" on the father's side of the family. Two of Tommy's cousins receive Special Education services at school. Tommy's Uncle was described as "hyperactive" as a child, and has never been able to hold a steady job.
