UALC PolyCom - Recommended Specifications
Polycom ViaVideo videoconferencing units
The quality of the videoconferencing using Via Video is highly dependent on two things:

The PC: the better the PC, the better the video
- The network:
- works better in a network instead of across the Internet;
- minimum bandwidth of 128-384 kbps inbound and outbound;
- network configuration set to enhance quality of service
This document addresses the PC requirements.
PC System Minimum Requirements:
- USB Port
- Windows 98 or 2000
- 350Mhz processor or better
- Pentium class with:
- MMX,
- 128MB RAM,
- 4MB video memory,
- 120MB available hard drive space
- NIC (Network interface card) that can run at 100 MBPS full duplex
- SVGA monitor (800x600), 16 color bit or higher
- For Laptop PCs: internal speakers required
- For desktop PCs: external speakers required
Installing the ViaVideo II: Software
After receiving your ViaVideo and reviewing the preliminary steps, follow these instructions to install the software:
- Download and install DirectX 9.0b Run time End User (This will force a reboot)

- Update Windows Media Player for your operating system (This will force a reboot)

- Download and Install Polycom ViaVideo Software (You may have to first register with the Polycom web site)

Once installed:
PC should have a static IP address. If operating in a DHCP environment, PC should be set up to "reserve an address", the functional equivalent of a static IP address.
PC's NIC should be set and running at 100mbps full duplex
Firewall ports:
The following ports need to be open:
TCP 1720, 1503, 3603
TCP 3230-3231
UDP 3230-3235
*** The ViaVideo system doesn't work with Macintoshes. ***
