Normal cardiac muscle in longitudinal section shows a syncytium of myocardial fibers with central nuclei. Faint pink intercalated discs cross some of the fibers. The same thick myosin and thin actin filaments are present in cardiac muscle fibers as are in skeletal muscle fibers. Both are "striated" muscle because of the cross striations that are present.
