Distally, major branches of the coronary artery bifurcate to small branches. This is a muscular artery demonstrating a thin intima on top of the internal elastic lamina. Below this is the media with smooth muscle and the external elastic lamina. Outside the media is the adventitia which merges with surrounding connective tissue.
