Dr. Joyce Mitchell is our guest speaker for the 2010 Priscilla M. Mayden Lecture in February. Her talk is titled, “Genetics/Genomics and Biomedical Informatics: Two Rivers Merging,” and it will focus on the growth of large data sets in the aftermath of the Human Genome Project; the rise of a consumer health movement focused on genomic/genetic questions; and the push for electronic medical recores as part of the ARRA HIT Stimulus finds. These forces are coming together to create a perfect storm for personalized healthcare with a focus on the use of genomics data in patient care and the need for clinical decision support in the genomics space.
The talk will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2010, from 4:00 – 5:00 pm in HSEB 1730. This lecture is free thanks to funds from the Priscilla M. Mayden endowment, and is presented by the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library. More information on this lecture series is available on our library website. Light refreshments will be served, and the public is welcome.
