Two Presentations for Native Voices & Pick Your Poison

As part of the 2017 Pick Your Poison Exhibit and in continuation of the 2015 Native Voices Lecture Series, the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library, in collaboration with the American Indian Resource Center and the Office of Health Equity and Inclusion are co-sponsoring the following two upcoming presentations in recognition of November as National American Indian Heritage Month.

How traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) produced healthy nutritious diet from plants considered deadly poisons?

Presenter:  Franci Lynne Taylor (Choctaw), Director, American Indian Resource Center, Office for Student Equity and Diversity, University of Utah

 

Franci Lynne Taylor is the Director of the American Indian Resource Center at the University of Utah.  She specializes in traditional Indigenous knowledge and ethnobotany and is a participating member of the Indigenous People’s working group at the United Nations. She has taught classes on interactions between colonialism and indigenous peoples at the University of Leiden, The Nederlands, and community-based research in American Indian communities. Ms. Taylor is a member of the Choctaw Tribe and is a traditional dancer and craft worker.

 

Native Voices and Pick Your Poison are two of the many traveling banner exhibits in the National Library of Medicine’s Exhibition Program.
