JOB SUMMARY

Eccles Health Sciences Library

The Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library seeks a Senior Accountant. This is a quality-focused, customer-facing position. Responsive service, proactive time-management and good communication skills are required. The Senior Accountant must independently manage numerous responsibilities and variable work flows. They will cooperate with internal and external customers to resolve billing and accounting issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides excellent customer service.
  • Prepares and submits Department financial transactions and journal entries.
  • Reviews transactions for accuracy, sufficient funding and proper approvals.
  • Reconciles Department accounts with the University accounting system.
  • Prepares and submits Departmental, University and Government reports.
  • Submits effort distribution changes, ePAFs and PARs.
  • Organizes and maintains Department financial records.
  • Participates in Department and external audits.
  • Assists with budget preparation and tracking.
  • Answers questions, corrects errors, resolves accounting-related issues and provides financial or other information as requested.
  • Interprets policies and recommends internal controls.
  • Apply accounting standards, Federal and State laws and regulations, and University and Department policies and procedures to specific situations, and advise others on accounting for non-standard transactions.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS


REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalency, plus two years professional accounting experience.

Also required are a thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices, knowledge of accounting software, advanced spreadsheet skills, the ability to write queries and macros and demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

PREFERRED

  • University of Utah Accounting Experience
  • Certifications as a Certified Public Accountant may be preferred for certain positions.

SALARY AND BENEFITS


Based on experience, starting at $39,300 -$56,000 annually. Position is a full-time.
