EHSL Welcomes New Hires

Dr. Elaine Thornton

Assistant Director for the History of Health Sciences

In May, Dr. Elaine Thornton joined the Eccles Health Sciences Library (EHSL) as the Assistant Director for the History of Health Sciences. Elaine brings with her 18 years of experience in both public and academic libraries along with an Ed.D. in adult learning and two Masters degrees, one in History and the other in Library Science.

In this position, Elaine will lead EHSL to realize our goal to make our amazing History of Health Sciences collection known and used nationally. In addition, she will serve as a member of our Clinical, Research, and Education Team where she will provide research support and information literacy training to health sciences faculty, staff, students, and clinicians.

We welcome Elaine to EHSL and the University of Utah! 


Olivia Kavapalu

Public Services Supervisor

Olivia Kavapalu recently stepped into her new role as the Public Services Supervisor at the Eccles Health Sciences Library. Olivia has worked as a public services library aide at the EHSL since 2018. She assisted with functions across the library including fulfilling Interlibrary Loans, digitizing print materials, completing systematic reviews, and managing 3D print services. Outside of her work in the library, Olivia also worked for the Pacific Islands Studies Initiative and the Office of Undergraduate Studies, both at the University of Utah.  

Olivia recently earned a Bachelor of Science degrees in Health, Society & Policy, and International Studies from the University of Utah. She is passionate about increasing access to higher education, specifically health sciences education, to historically underrepresented communities. Olivia is excited to help foster a welcoming and inclusive library space for the campus community and beyond.

We are excited to continue working with Olivia and welcome her into her new role! 


Lilly Johnson

Videographer

The Eccles Health Sciences Library is delighted to announce that Lilly Johnson has joined us as a Videographer beginning July 18, 2022.  Lilly is a Salt Lake native, though she comes to us via New York where she led a career in video production and motion design for several finance, media, and corporate institutions.  She is an alumnus of the U of U, having previously earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and Media Studies. 

Lilly is joining the library’s IT team and will be providing videography services for classes in the Eccles Health Sciences Education Building.  She will also consult on and provide media services for the library’s internal use as well as for the greater Health Sciences campus. 

Please join us in welcoming Lilly to the Eccles Library and wishing her a happy homecoming back to the University of Utah!
