a designated a Non-Health Care Setting, will loosen masking requirements. Masking policies will be based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/coronavirus.utah.gov\/case-counts\/\">CDC COVID -19 Community\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/coronavirus.utah.gov\/case-counts\/\">Level<\/a>. Since there is no patient care in our buildings, masking would only be required if the COVID-19 metric used for the general community is at a higher level. The order requires people, regardless of vaccination status, to wear &#8220;well-fitting masks&#8221; when indoors or gathering in large groups outdoors in Salt Lake County.<\/p>\n<p>People younger than 2 years old and people with medical conditions, impairments or disabilities that prevent the ability to wear a mask would be exempt, according to the order. This order applies to the University of Utah.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The new omicron coronavirus variant is unknown at this time, but we will continue to follow the wise guidance of our U of U Health colleagues, the <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/biamg1\/3ziq8xo\/josuuve\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC<\/a>), and our Salt Lake County and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/biamg1\/3ziq8xo\/zgtuuve\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Utah State Health Departments<\/a>. We strongly encourage all members of our campus community and our visitors to complete the two-shot COVID vaccination cycle and get their booster shots\u2014they are the best protection against serious coronavirus infection and hospitalization. Weekly vaccination clinics will continue this spring at the Union Building. At the same time, we urge everyone on campus to follow public health guidelines for social distancing and masking.<\/p>\n<p>This spring semester, frequent and comprehensive testing will be our most helpful tool in tracking and containing the spread of this new variant on campus. Our public health team has made it even easier for members of the campus community to find out if they have contracted COVID. Along with regular testing clinics, beginning on\u00a0<b>Jan. 10<\/b>,\u00a0<b>\u201cself-serve\u201d saliva tests<\/b>\u00a0will be available to any student, faculty or staff member at several locations across campus, including Housing and Residential Education (HRE) buildings, libraries, several colleges and the Union Building. No appointments are necessary.
