Byington, M.D., Associate Vice President, Faculty and Academic Affairs, Health Sciences, presented an app about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/groupbstrep\/about\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Group B Strep<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The app is called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/groupbstrep\/guidelines\/prevention-app.html\" target=\"_blank\">Prevent Group B Strep<\/a> and is available on Android and iOS.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3471\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3471\" style=\"width: 171px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/library.med.utah.edu\/blog\/eccles\/files\/2014\/03\/gbs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3471\" src=\"http:\/\/library.med.utah.edu\/blog\/eccles\/files\/2014\/03\/gbs.jpg\" alt=\"image of the Prevent GBS app screen\" width=\"171\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/library.med.utah.edu\/blog\/eccles\/files\/2014\/03\/gbs.jpg 171w, https:\/\/library.med.utah.edu\/blog\/eccles\/files\/2014\/03\/gbs-148x200.jpg 148w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 171px) 100vw, 171px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3471\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Screenshot of Prevent GBS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Dr. Byington worked with a team of professionals to move the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/groupbstrep\/guidelines\/guidelines.html\" target=\"_blank\">2010 <em>Guidelines for the Prevention of Perinatal GBS Disease<\/em><\/a> into a more user-friendly interface. This streamlines interpretation of the guidelines at the point of care.<\/p>\n<p>The app takes the user (pediatric and obstetric care providers) through a series of questions concerning the patient. Depending upon the answers, Prevent Group B Strep provides a specific patient management plan or appropriate antibiotic regimen in adherence to the 2010 Guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>By converting the guidelines into a scenario driven app, pediatric and obstetric providers can better implement evidence-based guidelines to prevent GBS disease.<\/p>\n<p>Give it a try!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On March 7 at Appy Hour, Carrie L.
