Eccles Health Sciences Library is excited to announce, yet another year of the <b>Priscilla M. Mayden Lectures! <\/b><\/p>\n<p>At the event we will be honoring the <b>2016 book authors in health sciences<\/b>, as well as listening to the 2017 Priscilla M. Mayden Lecturer<b>,<\/b> <b>Takashi Yamakawa<\/b> discuss &#8220;<b>Scholarly Communications in Japan.&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The event will be held in the <b>Eccles Human Genetics Auditorium <\/b>on <b>Tuesday,<\/b> <b>April 25th<\/b>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b> Reception <\/b>from<b> 1:00 pm &#8211; 2:00 pm <\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Lecture <\/b>from<b> 2:00 pm &#8211; 3:30 pm<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <b>Priscilla M. Mayden<\/b> lectureship has allowed the Eccles Health Sciences Library to invite knowledgeable and exciting speakers to the University for over 30 years. This year, Yamakawa will follow in the footsteps of others such as:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr. Joyce Mitchell, Chair of the U&#8217;s Department of Biomedical Informatics on Genetics, Genomics and Biomedical Informatics<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Ed Shortliff from Columbia University on National Health Information Infrastructure<\/li>\n<li>Clifford A. Lynch, Ph.D. Executive Director, Coalition for Networked Information on Scholarly Communication and Cultural Heritage in the Digital World<\/li>\n<li>Debra L. Spunt, M.S., R.N. on Advancing Education in Healthcare Through Technology<\/li>\n<li>And many others!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/library.med.utah.edu\/blog\/eccles\/files\/2017\/04\/Priscilla.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-6017 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/library.med.utah.edu\/blog\/eccles\/files\/2017\/04\/Priscilla.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"170\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/library.med.utah.edu\/blog\/eccles\/files\/2017\/04\/Priscilla.jpg 200w, https:\/\/library.med.utah.edu\/blog\/eccles\/files\/2017\/04\/Priscilla-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 170px) 100vw, 170px\" \/><\/a>Priscilla M. Mayden <\/b>was the former Director of the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library, where she was a visionary in her time. Mayden understood the emerging role of computers in libraries and in healthcare at the bedside. She is most well known for starting the Hope Fox Eccles Clinical Library in the University Hospital in 1983, which served clinical staff with the latest search capability close to the bedside.<\/p>\n<p>Priscilla&#8217;s friends and colleagues established the Priscilla M. Mayden Endowment in her honor upon her retirement in 1985. The Library will continue to recognize her service to the University of Utah as Director of the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library from 1967 &#8211; 1984 through the lectureship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Spencer S.
