Title :   R(esource) D(escription) and A(ccess): What’s in it for you?

Abstract:

What’s RDA? In this case, it’s not Recommended Daily Allowance. R(esource) D(escription) and A(ccess) is the new cataloging code that technical services librarians are now using that replaces AACR2 (the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules 2) as the Cataloging Law of the Land. Based on an entity-relationship model developed by the International Federation of Library Associations, RDA will help patrons and librarians alike find, identify, select, and obtain what they need, while allowing description of all types of resources regardless of format or content. It provides data in a structure that is machine-readable and enables rich library metadata, in the form of catalog records, to be seen, used, and organized by other constituencies.

How is RDA going to change the way resource information is presented to you and your patrons? What new data will be included? Will we lose anything in this transition? R(esource) D(escription) and A(ccess) : What’s in it for you? will describe some of the  changes you will see with the adoption of RDA and how you can leverage these changes  into better resource discovery for your constituents.
