Fungal infection of the scalp-KH

John L. Bezzant,M.D.

The fungi that normally inhabit the soil or animals come in contact with a human and induce an infection, the skin is generally extremely inflamed and produces a purulent, boggy mass. It is important to treat this with an oral antifungal and an oral or injectable steroid to quickly reduce the inflammation and thereby preserve the hair follicles and prevent permanent hair loss. A fungal infection of the scalp can require sometimes six months of oral antifungal therapy to eradicate it.
