Antifungals

John L. Bezzant,M.D.

The fingernails and toenails grow at the rate of about 1 to 3 mm per month. When using griseofulvin, it takes about six to eight months for normal fingernails to grow, and about one and a half years for normal toenails to grow. The same rate of clearance is true for the newer antifungal agents, but they are given for a shorter period of time because the remain within the underlying tissue and nail-plate longer than griseofulvin.
