Candida grows best in a warm, moist environment, and this illustrates that the axilla is one of those places that can produce that environment. Note that the axillary fold is involved; in atopic dermatitis, the redness and scaling are less severe, and they spare the axillary fold and form somewhat of a ring around the axillary fold.
