After evaluation and treatment of a patient, further assisted reproductive technologies
are necessary in some cases; these include artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization,
intrauterine insemination, gamete intrafallopian transfer, and zygote intrafallopian transfer.
These are specialized procedures which involve manipulation of gametes or embryos in order to
increase a couple's chance of conception.

Within the last
five years, egg donor programs have been developed in which fertile women donate eggs to
women who are either unable to produce their own eggs or who have ovarian destruction from
chemotherapy or ovary removal. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) also provides new
treatment options for men with functional, numeric, or morphologic defects.
