Health Care Provider's Actions

  1. An intravenous infusion of 1000 cc of Lactated Ringers solution was started and a 500 cc bolus of fluid given. 30 I.U. Pitocin was added to the remaining 500 cc. of fluid to run slowly. A second bag of Lactated Ringers was piggy backed to the first to provide additional fluid replacement.


  2. The vagina and cervix were examined and a straight catheter inserted to empty the bladder. The results were:
    1. 50 cc of urine were obtained
    2. Large blood clots were visualized in the vagina and cervical os. Clots and tissue were removed. However, some tissue remained which could not easily be detached from the inside wall of the cervical os.
