The lung may have an inflammatory response to inhaled fumes, gases, vapors or to aspirated chemicals.
Depending on the type and amount of exposure, the lung will have a patchy or diffuse injury resulting in
bronchiolar or alveolar damage, with severe pulmonary edema.
