The University of Utah Graduate Nurse-Midwifery Program has more than thirty years of history in providing quality Nurse-midwifery education. The program is accredited through the American College of Nurse-Midwives Division of Accreditation (DOA) which establishes the Criteria for Pre-Accreditation and Accreditation of Education Programs in Nurse-Midwifery.
The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates who are competent to facilitate high level wellness in women throughout their reproductive lifespan, as well as manage the course of normal childbearing. A participative process of care is fostered wherein women are empowered to assume appropriate self-care responsibility.
The graduate program in the Nurse-midwifery specialty is a five to six semester program of full time study leading to a Master of Science dgree or a post Master's Certificate in Nurse-Midwifery. A three year option of part time study is also available. Students may apply for financial aid from a number of sources.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the American College of Nurse-Midwives National Certification (ACC) exam. They may then become licensed to practice as a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM).
