50 Years University of Utah Department of Biomedical Informatics

In collaboration with the School of Medicine’s Department of Biomedical Informatics (BMI), the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library partnered with emeritus professor Reed Gardner and others in the department to produce an exhibit to celebrate the department’s 50th anniversary. The 50th Anniversary project continued previous efforts in documenting and celebrating the University’s rich history and contributions to this emerging field.

A physical display of items generously loaned by Intermountain Health Care, the J. Willard Marriott Library, University of Utah Archives, the Department of Biomedical Informatics, Mayo Clinic, and Reed Gardner were displayed during the anniversary event in 2014. Several slideshows were created with historical photographs and information collected from these sources, as well as a website containing the time line of the department’s history.
