Waiting for the Next Shoe to Drop

Overview

Healthcare Reform and Academic Pediatrics

Healthcare in the US is in the midst of dramatic reform driven by unsustainable healthcare costs. To maintain the missions of clinical care, research, and education, academic pediatric departments must plan for change. Challenges include declining clinical revenue, increasing burden of chronic disease, a changing workforce, and decreasing Federal research support. This team from the University of Utah Department of Pediatrics and Intermountain Healthcare’s Primary Children’s Medical Center share their planning and operating models which offer one approach to responding to the changing healthcare environment for academic pediatric departments and children’s hospitals.

A Form of Discussion

This collection is intended to open a discussion on the future of health care, and health care reform with an focus on academic Pediatrics.
