Abstract:

The "Mock Code " project is an interactive multimedia instructional tool that was specifically developed and targeted for the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Inc., Department of nursing toward the staff nurse position. The project incorporates the use of audio, video, text to provide an effective method for study and review of the procedures that TJUH has outlined for Code Blue alert and Stat Page emergency situation.

There are four separate instructional modules that were designed to take the learner fifteen minutes or less to complete, they are:

Each module contain an instructional sequence and self-test which gives immediate feedback to learners on areas where review is needed. Additional assessment is also provided through separate case study simulations that allow users to test their overall knowledge of Code Alert and Stat page protocols. A reference guide provides help on using the program and gives information about medications and the CPR record.

Additional features of the instructional program are a navigational setup that is intended to be user friendly, intuitive, and consistent in nature; an audio and video replay button to allow the learner to review content if needed; and a separate printed user's guide to accompany the Mock Code Project CD-ROM.

The educational delivery method will be primarily the hospitals computer network. Staff Nurses will be able to view the " Mock Code" project on demand as needed. The CD-ROM version will also be available for the staff nurse for home use.
