Abstract:
There have been great strides made in technology and schools are reevaluating the methods and tools they use for teaching. Multimedia today is one of the most powerful tools for communicating ideas and interactivity. Two buzz words in the multimedia technology field currently are :
It has been predicted that by the year 2000 this type of technology will increase by 37%. As educators we know that teaching can be accomplished by any of the following techniques:
Out of these three techniques it has further been demonstrated that if the medium used is an interactive mode of teaching the learning curve increases by 15-20%.
My CD-ROM is being developed as an interactive CD for the core procedures in Removable Prosthodontics, Complete Dentures. This will introduce a new teaching methodology utilizing emerging technologies. The CD-ROM will provide clinic protocol and core procedures supplemented with video clippings of clinic procedures. This valuable teaching tool will better prepare the students to treat clinic patients. This CD-ROM will contain all the core procedures being taught in Removable Prosthodontics in the Division of Restorative and Prosthodontic Sciences at New York University College of Dentistry. The CD-ROM will give students an instant access to the procedures in text, video and slide format. This will lend an interactive aspect to the learning process and make it interestingly enough to encourage students to retrieve the information on the CD-ROM.
Benefit in Attending Session:
Participants will be able to see the project that I am working on. This will be in line with the goals of "Slice of Life" where participants can meet with others with similar interests with whom they can network throughout the year. They can also go back to their own institutions and discuss strategies with their colleagues for getting new technologies incorporated into their own curriculums.
