Abstract:

Neuroblast represents a multimedia extension of our recently published neuroscience outline textbook (Ace Neuroscience, Mosby, 1996). The individual PDF (portable document format) files comprising this project provide an accurate reproduction of all book text and figures which are then supplemented with numerous additional images, animations and movies as well as text notes and questions with answers. Movies with patients depicting neurological syndromes are presented. As neurological patients commonly display physical symptoms that can be readily demonstrated, e.g., gait abnormalities, tremors, sensory loss, etc., such clinical cases are especially suited for multimedia presentations. Links to web sites presenting additional clinical information, e.g., NIH-NINDS (http://www.ninds.nih.gov/healinfo/nindspub.htm) and Healthtouch http://www.healthtouch.com/level1/menu.htm, are included.

Neuroblast contains two sets of files: (i) a tutorial or student set intended to provide comprehensive information to medical and graduate students as well residents and faculty and (ii) a slide set comprised mainly of images and brief text notes intended for lecture presentation or quick review.

Benefit in Attending Session:

Neuroblast demonstrates the usefulness of Acrobat PDF as a lecture presentation program or as a study program for neuroscience. PDF files are easily created from text and/or image files, have multiple navigation methods, may contain open/close windows for graphics or text, can be linked to movie files, other PDFs, websites and to other programs, can be indexed for searching, etc. PDF files are viewed with the freely distributed Adobe Acrobat Reader.
