Breakout Session
Mandated Computer Purchase, Trials Tribulations and Successes
Facilitators:
Mark W. Platt, Lee Bairnsfather Louisiana State Medical School at Shreveport
Summary:
Approximately 20 Medical Schools in the United States have instituted a compulsory computer purchase program for their students. Other schools have made the decision to provide computer laboratories or loan students computers for particular parts of the curriculum. While it is likely that no two schools have found identical solutions there are many common areas of success, failure and frustration which will provide a basis for the discussion.
Benefit in Attending Session:
Participants will be able to share their experiences with others who have implemented or are about to implement mandatory computer purchase.
Participants will be in courage to bring Examples of instances where they think that student owned computers are a benefit in medical education.
