Abstract:

Cognitive psychology research provides a rich source of principles for multimedia design.  You are, after all, designing for the human information processing system.  This presentation will briefly cover some important principles of perception, thinking, and memory that bear on the design of multimedia educational systems.  Principles of graphic design will be presented, with cognitive underpinnings explained.

 

Benefit in Attending Session:

The presenter is a cognitive psychologist and graphic designer with ten years of experience in medical informatics, including extensive experience consulting for industry and governmental agencies.  The presentation will thus draw from research in cognitive psychology, rules of practice in graphic design, and lessons learned in real world projects such as human-computer interfaces, Web sites, and displays of information.
