Managing an Online Academic Calendar using Microsoft Outlook Exchange

Abstract:

Using the Public Folder feature of Microsoft Outlook Exchange the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine has been able to:

• Streamline the process of developing course calendars by eliminating the inefficiencies of generating, distributing and revising paper drafts;

• Provide downloadable files of the final schedules for students to merge with their PDA calendars;
• Offer a web interface for searching calendars by date or keyword.

Because Outlook is the default e-mail client on campus, the College was able to implement the new system quickly and with a minimum of training.
