Abstract:
Medical
students love to study and learn by testing themselves with multiple choice
questions. This study modality becomes
especially popular as the USMLE exams near.
There are scores of question books available for this purpose. While some of these resources have
representative questions, their efficacy is limited by the constraints of the
book medium. Students can't customize
their tests nor can they receive detailed or cumulative feedback. These books also become quickly out-of-date
and are typically not revised for several years.
The
web can do better. Questions and
explanations are the perfect size packets of information for web delivery. While there are many sites with questions on
them, the Step 1 Qbank is the first browser-based, online, customizable
database for students preparing for the USMLE Step 1. The Qbank presently contains 2000 USMLE-style questions (with
comprehensive explanations) and is updated monthly to include new questions.
Customization
features include the ability to design tests:
Students
can even make tests containing only questions they have missed.
Performance
analysis features include:
In
addition to the customization, analysis and continuous updating features, the
Qbank also leverages the web by providing online assistance to students who
have questions or comments.
Benefit
in Attending Session:
This
demonstration will allow participants to view Qbank functionality and discuss
how internet technology can advance testing and assessment in medical
education.
