Jens Doerup
Section for Health Informatics, Univ. of Aarhus, Denmark

ABSTRACT:

Several initiatives have been established to try to cope with problems created by the increasing impact of commercial interests on medical web portals. Examples are the HON-code of conduct, E-Health code of ethics and Medcertain but there are many more. Ahmad Risk has proposed a global dot org alliance:

"Healthcare Internet" is dominated by profit motives, hijacked by venture capital and large corporations. Intellectual freedom is compromised. How to preserve the healthcare Internet ethos of the early pioneer days while influencing the future of Internet governance and protect and enhance the enablement of the tiny?" As the web continues to grow in size and complexity we constantly need to be aware of how it influences patients, doctors, and academic faculty.
