Gregory W. Taylor Ph.D.
Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport IA, 52823

ABSTRACT:

This presentation will give attendees a look at how computer technology and Web connectivity are currently being utilized in an Alternative Health Care setting. Information will be provided on the use of computers in laboratory settings, classrooms, institutional promotion, and continuing education.

An area of focus will be the development and use of course adjunct web sites by the author as part of his information delivery system. This presentation will look at the utilization of two web sites developed by the author for the Fundamentals and Systems Pathology courses. These web sites were developed using the Blackboard.com interface and rely heavily on linking to information presented on the WebPath site at the University of Utah.

If you build it will they come? Information will be presented that looks at the actual utilization of the websites mentioned above. How do students look at course sites and what do they use them for? Finally, how does traditional curriculum design (Palmer College) promote or interfere with student usage of non-traditional course tools such as online adjunct materials?

BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:

This presentation will give attendees some insight into how one example of an alternative care educational institution is utilizing this current revolution in educational technology. Attendees will also gain insight into some of the benefits and problems faced by website educational developers when designing courses for students that are in non-traditional educational environments.
