The two-volume Sobotta Atlas has been joined by an interesting companion product, Sobotta interactive that combines textbook and atlas functions in a single, innovative electronic medium. The excellent figures from "Sobotta" are the basis of this new series of products. The CD-ROM series differs from the atlas in that the figures are integrated into the explanatory chapters, making use of modern techniques such as the 3D models developed exclusively for "Sobotta". The program, and especially the texts, are particularly focused on topics relevant for the exams.

The series consists of three CDs:

• Locomotor System, issued in March 2000
  Nervous System, Sensory Organs, and Integument, issued in March 2001
  Internal Organs (scheduled for September 2001)

The CD "Locomotor System" features:

• 3D animations of bones, joints, and muscles that can be moved interactively via the mouse
  Histologic and radiographic images with sensitive areas
  Virtual muscle dissections
  Intelligent linking of text, images, and animation

The CD "Nervous System, Sensory Organs, and Integument" features:

• 3D animations of the brain and his major parts
  Histologic, clinical and radiographic images with sensitive areas
  Clinical movies
• Intelligent linking of text, images, and animation

The subject matter of all three CDs can be accessed from either the systematic or the topographic point of view. For example, the CD "Locomotor System" comprises three major topics: skeleton, musculature, and topography with vessels and nerves. It also contains an introduction to the fundamentals of anatomy and histology of the musculoskeletal system. The sensitive areas of the radiographic images bridge the gap to clinical applications.
