ABSTRACT:

QuickTime is a familiar format for digital video, but it is capable of much more. The QT architecture can contain not only video and audio tracks, but also photorealistic virtual reality, streaming media, vector graphics, 3D, text, MIDI, and Flash). Using hotspots and scripting language, these elements can be controlled by the user to create complex interactive movies, interface elements, etc., for standalone use or deployment on the web or in authoring programs.

The workshop will cover QuickTime architecture and the use of Live Stage Professional to assemble multi-track interactive movies. We will also discuss what can be done with tracks in other QuickTime programs such as Cleaner 5.

Attendees should leave the session with:

•A good understanding of various QuickTime elements, tracks and sprites.

•An appreciation of how these elements are used to make interactive movies and applications.

•A basic understanding of LiveStage Pro and its scripting language.

•The ability to add clickable sprites to control linear and VR movie behavior.

•The ability to use QT wired sprites as a control interface for web pages.

•The ability to add basic navigational and URL control to movies using Cleaner 5

Prerequisite:

Experience with Quicktime. Participants do not need to be videoeditors. We will start with the basics of what the different QT tracks are and what they can do. Show a lot of examples. Then we'll build some simple wired movies in LiveStage. Some familiarity with scripting languages like Lingo or Hypertalk would be useful, but not critical.

BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:

Benefit in attending session: Attendees will gain an understanding of QuickTime elements, tracks and sprites and how these can be used to make interactive movies and applications. They will learn how to accomplish some basic QuickTime authoring tasks in LiveStage Pro and Cleaner 5.
