Veronica Michaelsen and Anju Relan
University of Virginia and UCLA Schools of Medicine
ABSTRACT:
Participants at this breakout session will discuss the creation and use of new or existing cases and case authoring systems. Features that can be incorporated into case-based teaching will be discussed, giving consideration to the settings in which they might be most useful and how best to implement them.
Other factors that influence case based development and implementation will be included in the discussion, such as learning objectives, nature of content, use of formative evaluation data, and the constraints of the technology being utilized.
The discussion will include topics related to the review of case authoring systems currently available, barriers to the implementation of a case authoring system and how to overcome them, and, which features of case-based teaching reinforce particular learning strategies.
