ABSTRACT:
Interactive Web-based testing is a tool created by the Division of Educational Technology in the Office of Biomedical Research Education & Training, Vanderbilt University, to provide a clear picture of how well-prepared individual graduate students are for the Ph.D. program.
An environment that lets students and professors interact with each other creates an active learning atmosphere that facilitates effective learning. Immediate feedback provides information to the students regarding how much they know or don't know before classes begin. The test results help students get ready for their classes. The tests are online, so students may complete them anywhere and take as much time as they want. They get the results immediately after finishing for both pre- and post-test, and are able to assess their progress by comparing performance on the two tests.
The professors are able to logon to see their students results, as well as view an item analysis. She/he is able to improve the test items if they are not reliable. In this way, it is easy to guide students individually to the desired outcome, based on information obtained during their performance.
BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:
To present the prototype on online test and item analysis
To share the idea of using web technology to improve graduate medical education
To discuss with the same interest group and gather information to improve the tool
