ABSTRACT:
During the last two years, the National Board of Medical Examiners has worked on the development of web-based, interactive standardized patient (SP) training material for use at training and testing sites. It is the first multimedia-based SP training tool of its kind. In addition to case content and training protocol, the innovative prototype includes digital photographs, video, sound, database data-capture, and interactive SP assessment modules. This new media approach, as compared to traditional written training materials, will provide a more effective and flexible tool for standardized patient training.
BENEFIT TO
PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:
The demonstration will illustrate a comparison between traditional written training materials and the prototype. Additional topics for discussion include the potential advantages that this new approach will have for various adult learning styles and the challenges faced to convert text-based materials to an interactive format. Interested colleagues will have the opportunity to navigate the web-based tool and share their opinions and experiences.
